I have four managed Netgear ProSafe switches at home.
This is a list of steps I've taking to configure the switches.
Security > Management Security > User Configuration > Change Password
- Change password
Security > Access > HTTP > HTTP Configuration
- HTTP Sessions Soft Timeout = 40 minutes
System > Management > System Information
- system name
- system location
System > Management > IP Configuration
- IP address, subnet, gateway
System > Management > IPv6 Network Configuration
- IPv6 gateway
- IPv6 address with subnet
System > Management > Time > SNTP Server Configuration
- Server address = 172.25.129.2
System > Management > Time > SNTP Global Configuration
- SNTP
- Time zone = UTC +02:00
System > Management > DNS > DNS Configuration
- DNS Status = Enable (client)
- DNS Default Name = macfreek.nl
- DNS Server = 172.25.129.2
System > Management > Green Ethernet > Green Ethernet Configuration
- Auto Power Down Mode = Enable
- Short Cable Mode = Enable
System > Management > Green Ethernet > Green Ethernet Interface Configuration
- Auto Power Down Mode = Disable for links between network devices; Enable otherwise
- Short Cable Mode = Disable for links in the same room; Enable otherwise
System > SNMP > SNMP v1/v2 > Community Configuration
- Delete ReadWrite community
- Keep Read community ('public')
System > LLDP > Advanced > LLDP Port Settings
- Optional TLVs = Enable for all ports (send host name)
Maintenance > Download > HTTP File Download
- File Type = Code
- Image Name = image1
- Select file = Firmware (e.g. GS108Tv2_GS110TP_v5.4.2.13.stk)
- Note: uploading a SSL certificate seems to hang the switch.
Maintenance > File Management > Dual Image > Dual Image Configuration
- First check firmware version on Dual Image Status page
- Image Name: select image
- Activate Image: select
- Reboot from Maintenaince > Reset
Switching > Ports > Flow Control
- Global Flow Control = Enable
Switching > Multicast > IGMP Snooping Configuration
- IGMP Snooping Status = Enable
- ....

Switching > Ports > Port Configuration
- Description: set for each port
- Maximum Frame Size = 9216 for each port
Switching > VLAN > Advanced > VLAN Configuration
- Keep as-is (VLAN 1 = Internet; VLAN 3 = IPTV)
Switching > VLAN > Advanced > Port PVID Configuration
- Sets the Port-to-VLAN configuration for untagged traffic
- PVID Configured = Set for each port
Switching > VLAN > Advanced > VLAN Membership
- Sets the VLAN-to-Port traffic
- For each VLAN ID, set the correct PORT in T (tagged), U (untagged) or empty (not part of VLAN)
